Over the weekend we went on a nice day hike with our goats and some other people and their goats. It was a lot of fun and the weather was perfect. The fall is a wonderful time to go for a hike in the woods. On our small farm we have four wonderful pack / harness goats. All four of our goats are Alpine/Boer crosses, two wethers ( Henry and Hector) and two does ( Penny and Patsy). They range in age between seven and five years old. All four were given to us when they were about two to three years old. I hope people understand it is not necessary to bottle feed a goat to have a good bonded relationship. We got these goats when they were older and have developed strong bonds with them just by spending time with them everyday.
This last weekend hike our herd of four was joined by a group of three other goats and their humans. We hiked about four miles through the redwoods and by the creek . It rained a little bit which made the woods glisten with small droplets of water. It truly was magical. All of the goats wore their packs and carried a picnic lunch for the humans. Life is good! Hopefully you will have time this fall to hit the trail with your favorite pack goat.
