Our herd consists of five older working Boer cross goats and one very elderly Nubian doe.  One of the biggest pleasure of having working goats is being able to go hiking with them. My free time is very limited now so we mainly do some small day hikes. I think our goats enjoy it as much as we do.

In our corner of the world we do a lot of hiking through the redwoods and oak trees. This past weekend we took four of our packing goats and went for a wonderful three mile hike through the redwoods and across a very tiny ( about an inch wide ) creek. It was great fun! The goats got to eat berries and madrone leaves ( a favorite of theres) and all sorts of oak brush.  One section of the trail was very narrow lined with oak trees side by side. Henry our lead packer got his pack stuck while trying to navigate through the trees. In true goat fashion, he backed up and went harder and faster. He made it and it is a good thing our pack saddles are made very strong. The pack saddle made it through this trial with only a small scratch on the cross buck.

We are fast approaching the autumn and fall season. Perfect goat packing weather. Get out and explore your world with your faithful pack goat.
