Now with the high price of feed we purchase for our animals I thought I would share a few tips that might help to lower the high price of feed. Our horses and goats get a variety of feed some of it bought and some of it grown. Right now the price of feed in our area of America is very high with a bale of wheat hay going for $23.00 and grass hay is almost $30.00 . These are the highest prices I have seen in fifty years of raising livestock. We have had to make a few changes and adjustments to our feed. Goats and horses enjoy a variety of feed so we feed some herbs and other types of foliage. Some of the herbs we feed are; borage, scented lemon geranium, french lavender, and parsley. These are crops we grow for our animals and of course they are 100% organic. When feeding herbs to animals we only give them small amounts to add to the hay and feed they are already eating. As always it is best to ask your veterinarian for advice when adding new and unusual items to your livestocks feed. Adding the herbs helps to extend our purchased feed and also the goats and horses enjoy a little variety in their diet.
