We are currently in the middle of a horrific heat wave here in California. I have a couple of heat hacks that might help if you have to experience this too. Some of our goats are very elderly and the heat if very difficult for them to handle. We keep them out of the sun in the barn as the temperature rises ( that is pretty basic). However I installed a fan in the barn to keep the air circulating which has helped a great deal. Also I don't feed as much hay during the hot temperatures because when they eat they generate heat . Our goats enjoy carrot slices as a treat so when it is hot I put the slices in the freezer and give them to the goats as carrot popscicles.

Our chickens also have trouble with the heat . Chickens only have a couple of ways to cool themselves, through their feet and holding their wings out  with their beak open. I have found taking a hose and wetting down the inside of coop and making mud puddles for the chickens to stand in helps. Also I put ice inside the hanging water bucket with lick it nipples.

These are  just a few heat busting hacks I have found to help with this awful weather. Hopefully this heat fever will break in a few more days. Stay cool and keep those animals cool too.
